UCL Rare-Books Club Summer 2023

1 July 2023

UCL Special Collections are delighted to announce the provisional programme for this summer's UCL Rare-Books Club.

A selection of old rare books' spines and covers

Events will take place every Wednesday lunchtime from 5 July to 6 September. This year most sessions will be in person on UCL's Bloomsbury campus in London but a few will take place online.

The series aims to showcase and develop research on the rare printed collections held at UCL Special Collections, but we have plenty of archives included in the weekly displays too. We hope to facilitate conversations between library staff, research students and more experienced researchers, as well as others involved with rare books. This year's series highlights collecting, bookbindings, Jewish pamphlets, medical and science history, George Orwell, and some of our new acquisitions.

Sessions are free and open to all. In-person sessions are drop-in: turn up any time between 12.30 and 2pm (UK time) for an informal chat with curators and researchers. Online sessions run 1.05-1.55pm (UK time) on Zoom and involve an online presentation, sometimes displays of rare books live online, and time for questions and discussion.
