Update on the new UKRI Funding Service portal

As the transition to UKRI’s new Funding Service portal continues some responsive mode calls have now closed on the Je-S system and are being migrated to the new portal. Additionally, several new calls are being run on the new UKRI Funding Service. UKRI has also advised that new user accounts will need to be created for the new portal.

What do I need to do?

UCL Departments and Principal Investigators will need to ensure they check which funding portal should be used as this will vary depending on the funding call and Research Council.

To find out which system you should use for your application, please refer to the 'How to Apply' section of the funding call page for instructions. The ‘Start Application’ button on the page will also direct you to Je-S or to the new Funding Service portal, depending on the system being used for the call.

For calls that are being run through the new Funding Service portal, you must begin your application by clicking on the ‘Start Application’ button, which will allow you to create an account on the portal if you have not already done so. For other users, e.g., departmental support staff, UKRI has advised that a generic sign-up page for the new platform will be available soon.

The Je-S system will be phased out at the end of 2023, while some research councils will still use the platform to manage submissions. Specific information on transition plans for each Research Council and the associated changes to their responsive mode funding opportunities is available on the UKRI website.

New Wellcome Funding Portal

Wellcome is migrating from its existing Grant Tracker to a new Wellcome Funding Portal over the next few months, which will be used for all new funding calls.

Since 20 March 2023, all new funding calls will go through the new platform. Applicants for all new calls will be directed to the new portal and should log in or register to complete and submit their application in the usual way. Wellcome has indicated that they will update all system users on the new funding platform switch over the course of the current year.

The Wellcome Grant Tracker will continue to be used for all other current Wellcome grants and calls and any grants already awarded by Wellcome.  Further information on the new Wellcome Funding Portal is available here.

Which calls are using the new platform?

Applicants now need to use the new portal for Wellcome's main 3 funding schemes - Early-Career Awards, Career Development Awards, and Discovery Awards.

The Early-Career Awards scheme is now being run on the new Wellcome Funding Portal, with the Career Development and Discovery Awards schemes due to open on the portal from 1 June 2023.
