Update on UKRI Je-S replacement

As part of its Simpler and Better Funding programme, UKRI will be transitioning to its new Funding Service platform. The transition will take place over the course of the next several months, with the intention of moving all processes to the Funding Service platform by the end of 2023.

When will the transition take place?

UKRI will manage the transition in stages, with some councils migrating ongoing responsive mode calls to the Funding Service with effect from March 2023. As a result, there may be changes to how some calls are managed. While some schemes will be discontinued, some councils have confirmed that new schemes will be introduced over the coming months.  

A table summarising the timeline for how responsive mode calls will be affected is provided below. Further information on the transition and each council’s planned schedule for this can also be found on the UKRI website.

The new platform will introduce changes to how applications are developed, which may have an impact on some schemes as they move across from Je-S. For example, where an opportunity closes on Je-S and reopens on the Funding Service, applicants will need to complete revised application questions and assessment criteria.

Once an opportunity has closed on Je-S, incomplete applications will not be transferred to the new platform. Applicants will need to create new applications once the opportunity reopens on the Funding Service.

Advice for applicants

We will aim to share more information and promote training opportunities as more information is received about the Funding Service.

In the meantime, if you intend to submit an application before the end of March for calls that might be affected by the transition, please get in touch with your Pre-Award contact to enable us to plan workloads accordingly and allocate appropriate resources.

* Submissions for AHRC Research Networking call will be allowed up to 29 June 2023
** For EPSRC Programme Grants, Je-S will close to new outline submissions during week commencing 10 July 2023. For Mathematical Sciences Small Grants, this scheme will transition to Funding Service in Autumn 2023
*** MRC anticipates that research board applications will be through the Funding Service from autumn 2023, although this is to be confirmed in due course.
