Negotiating trust: Exploring power, belief, truth and knowledge in health and care

This page provides highlights from our 2021 conference.

Our 5th Qualitative Health Research Network (QHRN) Conference took place on the 18th-19th March 2021 online.

Our themes of trust, power, belief, truth and knowledge in health and care, although ever-present, seem perhaps evermore visible in our daily lives and increasingly contested in public arenas. For our fifth conference, we turned our attention towards unpacking the notion of trust, which we understand broadly as a concept that connects ideas of power, belief, truth, relationships, and knowledge. Together these issues and dynamics contribute to the shape of health landscapes, influencing the abilities of the public, services, practitioners and patients to engage in behaviours that ultimately determine health outcomes.

The QHRN Conference is an international biennial event that aims to disseminate research on health, illness and care that uses qualitative or mixed-methods approaches. It seeks to advance the role and current practice of qualitative health research by providing opportunities for discussion, critical reflection and networking.

The 2021 conference brought together researchers from a wide range of disciplines, practitioners, policy-makers, and health service users and was held over two days.
