Abstract
Overcrowding, typically measured by household density, is increasingly common in urban areas of England. While there is a pressing need for more spacious and affordable housing, this is often not available. Consequently, families may endure prolonged periods in overcrowded conditions, which may impact family health and child development and be associated with poor health and wellbeing.
This presentation will outline the preliminary findings from our qualitative study aimed to explore the experiences of families in crowded homes in the London boroughs of Tower Hamlets and Islington to identify factors in the household and wider environment affecting family health and wellbeing that could inform a more holistic measure of overcrowding.
