Synopsis


Katharine is the Director of the IOE Confucius Institute for Schools and Strategic Director for UCL's delivery of the Department of Education's Mandarin Excellence Programme (MEP). The MEP began in 2016, initially a four year programme with funding of £10 million, and since its evaluation in 2020 the programme has been extended. MEP responds to the growing importance of Mandarin as a global language. It is open to all state secondary schools in England with an Ofsted rating of ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’.
