This is a national study that aims to develop and test a PErsonalised Treatment package for Adults with Learning disabilities who display aggressive challenging behaviour (PETAL).

Aggression in adults with learning disabilities is common and persistent over time. Moderate to severe aggression is considered a public health problem. It is a major reason for emergency care and admission to psychiatric hospitals and can significantly reduce the mental, and physical well-being and overall quality of life of the individual and their family/paid carers.

The PETAL therapy aims to develop a personalised multicomponent approach to explore the response of adults with learning disabilities who display aggression to the PETAL therapy alongside usual care compared to usual care alone in the NHS.
