Describe the UCL Summer School in three words: Absolutely amazingly awesome!
Tell us a bit about the module you took – what have been the highlights?
I took Cybersecurity Risk Management (Session One) and Data Driven Web-based Application (Session Two). The classroom was so diverse, some of the ideas and styles were strange but also equally clever, and this was the highlight of both modules. The modules taught were great, and I learnt a great deal about different cultures, how everyone interacts, how one group handles a presentation and the ways in which students tackle problems.
What is the style of teaching like at UCL?
It is an open-to-criticism type of lesson - students are encouraged to ask and answer, even challenge the lecturer if they believe it is a valid argument. I especially love this as it is so different from what I grew up with. I really believe it is a more effective way to convey ideas since it always becomes a discussion in the class of why a statement is true, which makes it even more convincing.
Where is your favourite spot on the UCL Campus and why?
Mully’s basement bar! The number of friendships I had made there is countless, I loved every moment of it. The karaoke was a godsend, the vibe, the music, the people, they all hit just at the right note. The quiz and the speed-friending were very enjoyable, the questions were very interesting and funny. So many memories, so many friendships, and so much love happened at Mully’s, it will always have a place in my heart.
What advice would you give to any students looking to apply next year?
Pick UCL, you will never regret it! The course offers an excellent academic experience as well as life experience. This was the best summer of my life, it was full of love, fun and joy, and I am really glad that I had the chance to be here in UCL. I have met friends that I hold very dear. This was my first time in London, but I can say it was the best time in London for me. However, do bring a raincoat!
