Aims
The aim of our focus group for health professionals is to hear feedback from stroke clinicians, so we can shape the research around your needs and experience.
The focus group is also an opportunity to meet some of the PLORAS researchers and hear about latest research findings.
First group
Our first focus group for health professionals was held on 31 May 2013.
Nine health professionals working in stroke attended, including two Stroke Consultants (one of whom is a Clinical and Educational Lead in Stroke Medicine), and seven Speech and Language Therapists based in hospital, community, and long-term aphasia group settings.
Discussion topics included:
- How do you currently deal with the issue of talking about recovery in aphasia?
- What kind of information would you like to be able to give to people with aphasia?
- What would be the implications (positive and negative) of being able to predict likely aphasia recovery for: i) patients, ii) carers, iii) health professionals?
- Discussion about our clinical tool for predicting aphasia recovery, i.e. How should the information be given? Who should give the information? When should the information be given?
To contribute to these discussion topics, download PLORAS Discussion Questions (Word doc) and send it back to us with your comments.
Download a summary of comments from the focus groups for professionals and stroke survivors which were presented at the Neurology Staff Round at Newcastle University Medical School: PLORAS: Comments and advice from clinicians and patients on an aphasia prognosis system (pdf).
