Judy joined Ciba-Geigy, Horsham in 1988 after completing a PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of Bath. She worked as a medicinal chemist for 18 years, initially on anti-Thrombotic projects, such as Thrombin inhibitors and inhibitors of TF/FVIIa. Following the formation of Novartis and the setting up of the Respiratory Disease Area, she worked on projects targeting severe asthma and cystic fibrosis. During this time she had the additional role of unit safety officer, designed the chemistry labs for the Horsham Respiratory Research Centre and had responsibility for coordinating student industrial placements within the expanding chemistry department. In 2006 she was appointed the Global Discovery Chemistry Operations Manager for the Novartis Horsham site. As a member of the local chemistry leadership team and global operations team, her role included university liaison (collaborations, setting up of student training and placement opportunities), coordination of recruitment and staff training, installation and refurbishment of laboratory facilities, and headcount and budgetary management. Judy joined the Translational Research Office in July 2014.
