Careers Beyond Academia seminar series


This series is organised by early career researchers at the School of Pharmacy. In this series we explore, with the help of professional guests, some career options outside of academia for those in the field of Life Sciences, with a particular attention to those most applicable for people with a background in the Pharmaceutical Sciences. This activity is a Researcher-led Initiative that has been funded by the UCL Research Staff Development Programme.

  • Episode 1 Patent Law - seminar (27th May 2021)

In this session of our Seminar Series “Careers Beyond Academia”, two patent attorneys, Alan Hesketh from Indigena Biodiversity Ltd. and Michael Newton from Kilburn & Strode will talk about what their job encompasses, how to approach this career and what to expect.

  • Episode 3 Presentation Skills workshop with Simon Cain from Westbourne Consulting (22nd July 2021)

Excellent presentation skills have never been more important. Researchers need to know how to capture and hold the ear of their listeners who expect a shorter but more dynamic presentation style and as presentation technology increases in quality, so does the need to speak effectively in public. In this session, Simon Cain from Westbourne Training and Consulting will deliver training in presentation skills for early career researchers to enable them to present their research with greater impact.
