Make a lasting impact

ChangeMakers projects aim to improve an aspect of your education and experience at UCL – including assessment, building community, learning resources and more.

All UCL students are eligible to apply for funding and to partner in a project.

You'll receive a stipend payment aligned with London Living Wage for your time and contributions. It's also a chance to develop your leadership, project management and negotiation skills – and make a difference in your department.

The themes for ChangeMakers projects in 2023/24 are:

  • Enhancement: making connections
  • Innovation: re-imagining education
  • Engaging with difficult knowledge (Eugenics Legacies Education Project)

Student-staff partnerships

Working together respectfully plays a crucial role in shaping education. Both staff and students bring different but equally valuable perspectives, ideas, experiences and expertise to a project.

A staff partner will help you make a lasting change and help make sure what you are trying to do aligns with the goals of your department.

How to apply for funding

ChangeMakers is based on student-staff partnership, so you need a written statement of support from a staff partner, who will work with you throughout your project.

Applications should demonstrate why the problem the project is seeking to address or solve is important to current students.

The ChangeMakers team will offer you guidance and support through the process.

The deadline for applications is Friday 26 January.

Student success

For the first time, this year if you’re an undergraduate UK domiciled student, you can bid for up to £5,000. This funding would support a project to work in partnership with staff to increase equity and enable the academic success, retention and continuation of marginalised and underrepresented students.
