UCL support available following shooting at Charles University, Prague

22 December 2023

UCL is shocked and saddened by the shooting which happened at Charles University in Prague yesterday, 21 December 2023. Charles University is one of UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies' closest, long-standing partners.

UCL Portico

We offer our deepest condolences to everyone within the Charles University community. We are reaching out directly to members of our community studying and working in the region to ensure their safety and offer our support.

For any of our students or staff that may be affected, we want to reassure you that support is still available and ongoing throughout the Winter break closure period.

Students can contact our Support Team for Students affected by War, Conflict and Disaster, a collaboration between Student Support and Wellbeing (SSW), the Department of Psychology and Language Sciences (PALS), and the University Clinic. The team provides emotional and practical support to students affected by events by offering sessions of Psychological First Aid (PFA). You can access the team's support by contacting the Study Abroad and International Support team. All students also have access to UCL's 24/7 Student Support Line for support with their mental health and wellbeing.

Both of these services will continue as usual over the Winter break, and details of all services and support available for students over the Winter break can be found on the Student Support and Wellbeing Services webpages

UCL staff and doctoral researchers can access confidential, 24/7 mental health support with our Employee Assistance Programme: Staff Support Service.

We are continuing to monitor the situation and our thoughts are with all those affected at this sad time.
