Call for interest for B-MEntor cross-institutional mentoring schemes for staff from BAME backgrounds

We are looking for mentors and mentees to participate in our cross-institutional mentoring schemes for Academic, Research and Professional Services staff from Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds.

What is B-MEntor?

B-MEntor Academic and Professional are two well-established mentoring programmes that offer a unique platform for BAME academic, research and professional services staff to strengthen their skills and improve their networking capability through cultivating cross-institutional relationships.
 
The programme supports UCL's Equity and Inclusion Plan 2020–21 and the commitment to deliver pipeline interventions through Positive Action as part of its commitment to the Race Equality Charter Mark and UCL's Race Equality Implementation Plan 2021

Which institutions are participating in B-MEntor?

The schemes are being run in partnership with Queen Mary University London, King's College London, St George's University (PS only), and the University of the Arts London (PS only).

Who is eligible to participate? 

  • Mentees: academic and research staff at post-doctoral to lecturer level and professional services staff from grades 5–7 who self-identify as being from a Black and Minority Ethnic background. i.e. not White European. 
  • Mentors: academic and research staff at Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor/Reader or Professorial level and professional services staff from grades 7–10 from any ethnic background.

What does the scheme include?

The mentoring period will be approximately one year, and a training and support package is offered for all parties. The selection and matching of mentors and mentees will occur in mid-January and a compulsory training session will take place in January.
