#MadeAtUCL shows how UCL is making a difference to everyday lives

1 February 2019

UCL has launched a new campaign to bring to life the university’s impact on people, lives and communities, through our ground-breaking research

#MadeAtUCL

UK universities are at the forefront of some of the most exciting discoveries and pioneering changes that are solving some of the most pressing issues facing the world today.

#MadeAtUCL will showcase 100+ stories highlighting how UCL’s work has made a difference to people, whether through health, technology, culture, environment, community, justice and equality.

For example, UCL’s ground-breaking research has revolutionised the treatment of leukaemia and transformed the lives of patients with aggressive cancers. Read more about this story and others on our MadeAtUni webpage.

Last November, universities across the UK joined forces through the #MadeAtUni campaign to highlight the biggest breakthroughs that have come out of universities. #MadeAtUCL builds on and supports this campaign.

Launching #MadeAtUCL, President & Provost, Professor Michael Arthur, said: “UCL is committed to changing the world for the better.

“We continually pursue academic excellence, break boundaries and make an impact on real world problems.

“#MadeAtUCL celebrates how our discoveries, theories, inventions and solutions, have brought about significant change for the benefit of humanity and touch people’s lives everyday.”

UCL now needs your help in collecting the 100+ breakthrough stories which have come out of our university. These stories should demonstrate how they have:

  • Improved the everyday lives of people in ways that the general public can relate to.
  • Caused a step change in a particular area of life, or are significant or innovative.
  • Resonate with people’s lived experiences.
  • Generate feelings of intrigue, wonder and surprise.

Once we’ve received all your submissions, #MadeAtUCL stories will be showcased through our media and social media – where there will be an opportunity for the public to vote for their favourites. The campaign will culminate in a series of events where your star stories will be revealed.
