At UCL, we want you to get the most from your time with us. Being a UCL student means so much more than simply attending lectures and taking exams. There are lots of excellent opportunities that will enrich your experience and make UCL the best it can be for you.

Not only will these opportunities add valuable skills to your CV and help you meet new people, but they could also help you effect positive change at UCL, even allowing you to explore some of the world's most pressing challenges.

Make the most of your time here and get involved in world of opportunities that UCL's spiritual father Jeremy Bentham would be proud of!

1. Become a UCL ChangeMaker and get up to £1,000 in project funding

Do you have an idea that could make the education in your department even better?

UCL ChangeMakers is a programme in which students and staff collaborate to enhance UCL education. You can apply for a grant of up to £1,000 to conduct a UCL ChangeMakers project, which could be anything from working with departments to improve their assessment and feedback practices, to collaborating with staff to implement your creative teaching ideas. The application deadline is 24 November.

Benefits for you

Develop project management skills; team leadership; the ability to communicate persuasively; build close relationships with academic staff; gain insight into UCL's operations; HEAR recognition; you'll also receive a stipend of £50-£150.

2. Team up with staff to review UCL teaching and learning

As a Student Quality Reviewer you act as a consultant, teaming up with UCL staff to take an in-depth 'behind the scenes' look at different areas of academic practice. You'll use your analytical skills to give detailed feedback from a student perspective on UCL's work.

Benefits for you

Research skills; leadership; financial management; persuasion; HEAR recognition; critical thinking; build relationships with senior UCL staff; you'll also receive a stipend of £150.

3. Join the Student Experience Panel and get access to incentivised opportunities all-year round

Want to shape UCL but can't commit to a long-term project? Join our Student Experience Panel and have your say on a range of issues. You could take part in a range of one-off feedback opportunities such as focus groups or a quick survey and get lunch or a voucher to say thank you. Sign up now for opportunities all year round.

Benefits for you

Critical thinking; communication and problem solving skills; some activities offer training; cash, vouchers or free lunch.

4. First-year undergraduates apply for the fully-funded Laidlaw Scholarship

The programme aims to create the leaders of the future through a mix of training and intensive summer research periods. There are 25 fully-funded scholarships available for first year undergraduates. The programme runs over three years and it gives you the opportunity to be part of a high performing group from across UCL. Keep an eye on the Laidlaw website, application opens in November 2017.

Develop research skills; undertake leadership training; develop close relationship with academics; receive a stipend of £3,300 per year in your first and second year.

5. Take part in the Global Citizenship Programme and explore a world of opportunity

The Global Citizenship Programme gives you the chance to put your studies into a global context, as well as develop hands-on skills like negotiating and film-editing. It is completely free of charge, runs over two-weeks after exams finish in the summer term. Registration opens in February 2018.
