Dr Farhad Nazari

Scholarship dates:  1 December 2020 - 28 February 2021

Academic hosts: EAMENA project, University of Oxford

Dr Farhad Nazari is an expert on the conservation and restoration of historical buildings with the Iranian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts. With support from the Iran Heritage Foundation, he held a Visiting Scholarship with the  EAMENA project, University of Oxford.

During his scholarship, Dr Farhad employed EAMENA's methodology to survey and document historical sites impacted by dam construction projects in Iran, especially Moshampa and Seymareh Dams.

Dr Farhad is interested in the effects of dam construction on heritage. Iran's intensive dam-building programme has endangered many archaeological sites dating from prehistory to the late 17th century as well as historic villages and traditional architecture. Archaeological salvage excavations often have to be very hasty.

Following his research, he hopes to put together a comprehensive dataset of the impacted sites so that they can be better protected in the future.
