Apply

Apply for a grant, scholarship or studentship to conduct research on Iraqi heritage, history or the humanities. All schemes are for Iraqis living in Iraq. Grants may include international partners.

Research Grants

We offer a range of grants to support Iraqi-led research on the ways in which heritage, history and the humanities can improve life in Iraq. The scheme is currently closed and will re-open in autumn 2024.

Mini Grants Scheme

The Mini-Grants Scheme offer grants of up to £5,000 for small research projects that have potential to deliver cultural, economic, environmental or social benefit for Iraq/KRI. The scheme is open for applications until 15 May 2024.

Visiting Scholarships

Together with The British Institute for the Study of Iraq, we select Iraqi heritage professionals, academics and research students to come to the UK for two-month placements. There are also online placements for scholars who prefer not to travel. This scheme is now closed and will re-open in winter 2024.

Academic Mentorship Programme

The Academic Mentorship Programme is designed for Iraqi researchers in the fields of arts, social sciences and humanities. Registration is now closed.

Academic Research Course

The Academic Research Course focuses on developing research capacity in Iraq, including Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Registration is open until 15 April 2024.
