Jasim

Mr Mohammed Jasim is the former Director of Mosul University Libraries. With support from BISIMohammed received a Visiting Scholarship completing the with The British Library. The central library at Mosul University was destroyed during the ISIS/Daesh occupation of the city in 2014–17. While UNDP is reconstructing the building itself, Mohammed is developing a management plan for the library. During his time in the UK, he researched digitization and documentation of the surviving collection, acquisition strategies, and staff training. This placement represents a new level of collaboration between British and Iraqi universities and cultural institutions. He is collaborating with other university libraries as well, including SOAS, Cambridge University and Oxford University with plans to create a counsulting board to help rebuild the Mosul Library.

Mohammed Jasim completed the first part of his visiting scholarship at the British Library in July 2019. To learn more about Mohammed's scholarship and project, please read his interview on our blog.
