  • Ilan Kelman receives Commendation from the Emerald Literati Awards

Dr Ilan Kelman (UCL Institute of Risk & Disaster Reduction and UCL Institute for Global Health) has been highly commended by the Emerald Literati Awards for his article entitled: “Linking disaster risk reduction, climate change, and the sustainable development goals”.

The Emerald Literati Awards celebrate and reward the outstanding contributions of authors and reviewers to scholarly research. The judgement criteria are based on: internationality; diversity; support for scholarly research; encouragement of applied research (impact); commitment to high quality scholarship; and a desire to ensure reader, author and customer experience is the best it can be.

Dr Kelman is a Reader in Risk, Resilience and Global Health at UCL and a Professor II at the University of Agder, Kristiansand, Norway. His overall research interest is linking disasters and health, including the integration of climate change into disaster research and health research. That covers three main areas: (i) disaster diplomacy and health diplomacy ; (ii) island sustainability involving safe and healthy communities in isolated locations ; and (iii) risk education for health and disasters

“This paper aims to end the separation amongst development topics, starting with basic definitions to set a science-based joint agenda regarding climate change, disasters, and sustainability. I am delighted that the journal has recognised the importance of this topic through the award, so that we could continue to join forces to use science for serving society,” said Dr Kelman.
