Join our Virtual Graduate Open Event to learn more about our range of Master's programmes, how our programmes are taught, and what it's like to study at UCL Chemistry. You'll have the opportunity to hear from academic staff and ask any questions you might have about your application and what postgraduate study is like at UCL.

At UCL, we’re pushing forward new discoveries in chemistry, and equipping the next generation of chemists to do the same. UCL Chemistry is one of the top chemistry departments in the UK. With our strong reputation for chemistry research (rated 3rd in UK for 4* submissions in REF 2021), and central London location – UCL offers the ideal environment in which to pursue master’s level study. Choose from one of six specialist MScs, to gain first-hand experience of research at the cutting-edge of chemistry, modelling and materials.

Our MSc Programmes

Applied Analytical Chemistry MSc
Analytical chemistry underpins many important commercial enterprises, from jet engine development and food production, to areas like Earth sciences and forensics. On this MSc, you’ll learn to design, build and use analytical devices to tackle the challenges of this vast range of applications.

Chemical Research MSc
This programme is ideal for those looking for hands-on scientific research training using the latest tools, methods and techniques. 50% of the master’s is your own intensive research project, with the other half giving you the knowledge and skills needed to complete it.

Chemical Sustainability MSc
Taught at UCL East, this master’s combines multidisciplinary teaching with sustainable and green chemistry research. You’ll learn skills in chemical and biological molecular assembly, using methods that have low environmental impact.

Materials and Molecular Modelling MSc
There’s a growing need for staff trained in computational molecular and materials sciences. Our multidisciplinary MSc will teach you to use(?)equip you to use the simulation tools used in areas like catalysis, energy materials, nanotechnology and drug design, giving you a compelling set of transferable skills.

Materials for Energy and Environment MSc
Interested in using your chemistry skills to address pressing energy and environmental challenges? This broad-based MSc will equip you with the materials chemistry skills to build new technologies in areas like energy storage, carbon capture and climate engineering.

Organic Chemistry: Drug Discovery MSc
This master’s is for students looking to specialise in organic chemistry for drug discovery. Studying the drug design process in depth, you’ll build the skills to be able to test and discover new medicines, making you a prime candidate for jobs in the pharma and biotech sectors.
