London Geochemistry & Isotope Centre

The London Geochemistry and Isotope Centre (LoGIC) combines research teams and facilities in geochemistry at UCL and Birkbeck. We carry out chemical and isotopic investigations of natural (rocks, soils, waters, air) and human (archaeological, industrial, pollutant) materials using a variety of analytical and experimental approaches to investigate processes both now and in the past.

Opportunities

Our researchers collaborate in the UK and internationally. If you would like to work with us or use our facilities please reach out using the contact details on this page. For prospective research students and postdoctoral fellows, please refer to information from your respective host department. The UCL Earth Sciences Department provides resources for doctoral students and research fellows

Seminars

LoGIC hosts biweekly seminars on all aspects of geochemistry on Wednesday lunchtimes during term-time in the Earth Sciences Department at UCL. Seminars are announced the LoGIC mailing list. If you would like to join the mailing list, or you would like to present your research, please contact us via the information provided here.

People

We study Earth’s past and present using geochemistry, palaeoclimatology, and archaeology—exploring topics from sustainable mining and the carbon cycle to Earth’s oxygenation, tectonics, and habitable planets beyond Earth.

Facilities

LoGIC hosts world-class analytical facilities, including laboratories for elemental and isotope analysis, biogeochemistry, sedimentology and micropalaeontology, as well as microprobe, SEM, Raman spectroscopy, XRF, and rock preparation facilities.
