Professor Kate Jones awarded Marsh Award from the British Ecological Society
2 September 2022
Kate Jones, Professor of Ecology and Biodiversity at UCL and Director of the People and Nature Lab at our UCL East campus, has been awarded the Marsh Award for Ecology from the British Ecology Society 2022.

Kate’s research also develops applied artificial intelligence tools for monitoring ecological health, particularly for monitoring ecosystems acoustically. Kate has led the development of novel global citizen science programmes with The Bat Conservation Trust involving thousands of volunteers all over the world to monitor bat populations, collaborating extensively with national conservation NGOs and governments.
Kate said: “I’m absolutely delighted to receive this award. Healthy ecosystems are critical for all human endeavours, and ecology is moving centre stage as the foundation to address the pressing issues of our time such as pandemics, climate change, and food security. Over the course of my career, I have seen the BES grow into such a brilliant, vibrant, and inclusive society which I am so proud to be part of. This honour from BES means the world to me.”
