Anne McLaren was a prominent scientist in the field of stem-cell research. In the 1950s, she made a groundbreaking achievement by carrying out the first-ever IVF birth using mice. Her pioneering work laid the foundation for the development of human in vitro fertilisation.

Later, she played a significant role in shaping public policy around IVF as a member of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority. Anne received numerous accolades for her remarkable contributions to science, and she made history by becoming the first female Officer of the Royal Society, serving as the Foreign Secretary and Vice President.

The lecture will be given by Professor I. Sadaf Farooqi, University of Cambridge, who will talk about The Biology of Appetite. Professor I. Sadaf Farooqi is a Wellcome Trust Principal Research Fellow and Professor of Metabolism and Medicine in the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at Cambridge University.
