28 April 2023

Bookings are open for online and face to face library skills training sessions in term 3.

A helpful subject liaison librarian helps a student use library resources

Our sessions cover everything you need to know to find and use information effectively in your assignments or research, from literature searching and evaluating your results, through to managing and citing your references, as well as specialist sessions on areas including copyright, research data management and bibliometrics.

New sessions

We have recently introduced the following new sessions to our programme:

  • Search Strategies: Questions and answers: Are you undertaking a literature search? Do you need help with a specific issue or some guidance on your search strategy? Join us for some advice online or face to face.
  • Introduction to referencing: This face to face session explains the importance of accurately acknowledging your sources and equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary to cite references correctly.
  • Introduction to altmetrics: This short session introduces the concept of ""altmetrics"" and the Altmetric tool, a service to look at the impact of published research in the wider world. It tracks mentions of papers in things like social media, news discussions, and referencing tools.
  • Understanding open licences: This session for UCL staff and postgraduate researchers discusses open licences in research, learning and teaching, with a focus on Creative Commons Licences.
  • Copyright and your publishing contracts: In this hands-on session we will visit some common terms that come up in copyright transfer agreements and suggest some things you can do to be able to reuse your own work in your research and teaching activities.
