Samuel Turner III

West India merchant, and director of the Bank of England, partner with his brother Charles Turner (q.v.) until 1826. Probably the man of West Derby Lancashire whose short and uninformative will, in which he left everything to his wife Elizabeth Rachel Turner, was proved 23/11/1847.

1. In 1822 Samuel Turner gave evidence to the Select Committee on the West India Dock Co., in which he said that he was a West India merchant (and had been for 22 years) but not a West India proprietor, and that he had been a director of the Bank of England for 16 years but was then retired from the role.

2. Elizabeth Rachel Turner nee Sclater who died late of Barcombe Place 05/01/1860 leaving £12,000 was probably his widow. This woman had married a Samuel Turner at Walthamstow in 1805.
