Biography

Son of Edward Pennant (d. 1736). Baptised in Jamaica 20/12/1709. Inherited a share in his father's Jamaican estates. Alderman of Bishopsgate ward in 1742; Lord Mayor of London in 1749. Died 20/05/1750.

John Henry Pennant and the estate of Samuel Pennant was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 2190 acres of land in Westmoreland.

To my loving brothers John Pennant of Saville Row in Middlesex and Henry Pennant of Lawrence St Ayotts in Hertfordshire all my messuages, farms, lands, heriditaments and premises situate and being in the parishes of Flamstead and Redbourne in Hertfordshire as tenants in common.

To my three sisters Elizabeth Dawkins, mary Morant and Sarah Rodon £200 a piece.

To my book keeper Mr Robert Higston £150.

To Mr Edmond Boehm, Mr Sachary Philip Ffomerean, William Reilly and Mr Tilman Henckell all of London, merchants, £20 a piece for mourning.

To each servant £10.

All my plantations, parts and shares of plantations, negroes, cattle, part and shares in ships, debts, rights and credits and the rest and residue of my estates real and personal in Jamaica or Great Britain to my two brothers John and Henry Pennant Esquire to be equally divided between them.

My two brothers to be executors.
