John Forster Alleyne

1762 - 1823

Biography

Married Elizabeth Gibbes Willing, St Michael, Barbados, 10/06/1782. Father of 16 children including Charles Thomas Alleyne (q.v.) Of the children Henry, Charlotte Emily and Douglas were all christened on 25/05/1808 in St James.

In a Levy Book list for St James, Barbados, 1822, Alleyne was listed as owning 403 enslaved and 740 acres of land. The name of the estate (or estates) was not given. It is probable that the Levy Book referred to this person: the name is given as John F. Alleyne.

See also the return of John Holder Alleyne, Attorney, for Joseph Lowe in the Barbados Slave Register for 1823 which shows the purchase of 51 enslaved from John F. Alleyne.

John Forster Alleyne died 29/09/1823, aged 61. He was buried in St James, Barbados.
