I am from a city called Ordos, near Beijing, in China.
Where do you study?
I am studying in Southwest University in China.
What are the main differences between studying in your school and studying at UCL?
UCL and China have different learning styles. In UCL, the learning time is short and the course pressure is low. Teachers always encourage us, find our strengths and give us a lot of time for discussion.
In China, our class time is very short, there are many subjects, students are under great academic pressure, and they are often criticised for their grades, but the teachers also want us to get excellent grades.
Why did you choose to study the UCL Summer English Course?
First of all, the education and geography of UCL are among the best in the world, so I want to get in touch with and understand this school. Secondly, I like London very much, and I have been looking forward to having the opportunity to visit London to see different scenery.
What have been the highlights of the course so far and why?
I particularly enjoyed the research project because it combines two skills I had not developed before: interviewing and presenting in front of an audience.
I went to see the musical The Lion King and I enjoyed it so much.
I also enjoyed walking on the South Bank of the River Thames, which gave me a different view of London.
What skills have you developed on the UCL Summer English Course?
Before going to London, I had hardly communicated with people in English in daily life. After three weeks' study, I could communicate with people boldly and understand English. The study in UCL has also greatly improved my academic ability. Of course, I also have stronger social skills.
What advice would you give to a student who wants to do the UCL Summer English Course next year?
Be confident, believe that you can do better, speak up in class, think positively about your teachers, and cherish your life in London.
