Download Zoom on to your laptop or desktop

This guide explains how to download the Zoom application to your laptop or desktop. Applications are available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

This guide is aimed at

  • Staff
  • Students

Tip: the Zoom app will download automatically when you start or join your first meeting, however if you wish to use the app, it is recommended that you download it in advance to ensure you have everything set up prior to your meeting.

Instructions for managed devices

You can install the Zoom Client on a UCL managed machine (Desktop@UCL) via the Software Centre. You don't need admin rights to your device to do this. Your machine needs to be connected to the UCL network on campus or, if working from home, the VPN connection.

  1. Go to the Search box next to the Start menu and type in Software Centre.
  2. In the Software Centre use the Search box to find Zoom.
  3. Click on the Zoom app and then click on Install.
  4. Once you have downloaded the application open it by searching for Zoom in the Search box next to the start menu.
  5. Click on sign in and then SSO. Do not use the main email and password boxes to sign in with your UCL account as this will not work.
  6. Enter ucl in the company domain field and continue.
  7. You will be taken to the UCL single sign on page in your browser. If you are prompted, click on open Zoom meetings
  8. If prompted, fill in your UCL username in the format of userid@ucl.ac.uk (eg ucyxxxx@ucl.ac.uk) (eg uczxxxx)
  9. Enter your current UCL password (the one you use for your email), select Sign in.
  10. You will be logged in to the Zoom application

  4. Click on the installer to install the Zoom client on to your machine.
  5. Once you have installed the client you will be prompted to sign in. Click on sign in and then SSO. Do not use the main email and password boxes to sign in with your UCL account as this will not work.
