Connecting to the UCL VPN with Android

This guide explains how to connect to the UCL Virtual Private Network (VPN) which gives access to a variety of UCL services and resources from outside of UCL.

Before you start...

Important notice

When connected to the UCL VPN service, ALL your traffic will be sent through the UCL network, regardless of whether the destination is a UCL address or an address on the Internet.

Instructions

  1. Go to the Google Play store
  2. Search for "Cisco AnyConnect" and install
  3. Open the Cisco AnyConnect app
  4. Tap Connection on the AnyConnect home screen (Fig.1) followed by Add New VPN Connection

  5. In the Connection Editor (Fig.2) tap Server Address

  6. In Server Address (Fig.3), type in vpn.ucl.ac.uk and tap OK

  7. Tap Done

  8. With the UCL VPN now selected/ticked in Advanced Preferences (Fig.4), tap the back arrow button to return to the AnyConnect home screen

  9. At the AnyConnect home screen (Fig.5), tap the AnyConnect VPN switch

  10. At the username/password screen (Fig.6), enter the details as below and click Connect

    Group: RemoteAccess
    Username: your UCL user ID
    Password: your UCL password

  11. Click OK to accept the connection request (Fig.7)

  12. You are now connected to UCL's VPN service (indicated by key symbol at top of screen)

  13. To disconnect from UCL's VPN, click the AnyConnect VPN switch to the off position (Fig.8)
