Research Fellow to work in the Ruhrberg lab

About the role

Duration: The post is funded by the British Hearth Foundation for a period of 6 months in the first instance.
(8 January 2024 - 19 July 2024). 

Salary: UCL Grade 7 spine point 30 (£42,099 per annum inclusive of London Allowance)  

Building on recent work from the Ruhrberg laboratory at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, the post holder will elucidate novel molecular mechanisms that control blood vessel growth in lung during development and congenital disease. This is a collaboration with UCL Respiratory and UCL Child Health.

Appointment as a Research Fellow at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD. If this is not the case, an initial appointment will be made as a Research Assistant at Grade 6b (£37,332 - £39,980) with payment at Grade 7 backdated upon award of a PhD to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis (with corrections)

About you

The successful applicant will carry out a wide range of duties including, amongst others, leading and taking responsibility for experimental objectives, designing and carrying out experiments as required to achieve the experimental objectives, writing manuscripts for publication and presenting successful work packages at national and international meetings.

A PhD in a biological discipline and experience in working with transgenic and knockout mice is an essential requirement. Preference will be given to PIL holders.

The post holder requires extensive experience in molecular, cell biology and developmental biology techniques as well as knowledge of transgenic and knockout mouse models, including husbandy, genotyping, and phenotyping. The post holder should demonstrate a keen interest in cardiovascular biology, including conference presentations and publications.
