Professor Russell appointed as new Joint Director of Education

We are pleased to announce that Professor Michèle Russell has been appointed as UCL Institute of Ophthalmology/Moorfields Eye Hospital Joint Director of Education.

The role of Joint Director of Education focuses on strengthening the development and expansion of integrated education within the joint UCL Institute of Ophthalmology/Moorfields Eye Hospital site. 
Our ambitious vision for education is that anyone, anywhere in the world wanting to learn about eye disease or vision research, science and enterprise, looks to the UCL-Moorfields education portfolio first. We are committed to building a unique learning culture with a global presence and maintaining our position as world leader in ophthalmic education.

Professor Michèle Russell has a well-established reputation as a Professor of Clinical Education and Higher Education Policy with 18+ years senior strategic leadership experience in Higher Education (HE), Health, Government, public and private sector consultancy. She brings expertise on curriculum design and innovation, professional and clinical education and a strong record of institutional, national and international project delivery.  She has held PVC/Director of Education level roles at Russell Group Universities, such as the LSE leading the transformation of Assessment, and King’s College London, where she led on the consultation/revalidation of the MBBS and nursing/midwifery programmes. 

She joins us from the Senior Civil Service where she is currently running a portfolio of work as part of the National COVID-19 (C19) Task Force. She is also undertaking consultancy on COVID-19 for other Government departments, universities, and for specific events. 

Professor Russell will officially take on the role from 1 September 2021.
