IoO staff enable UCLto take part in the Pint of Science Festival
23 June 2016
Pint of Science is an international science festival that aims to deliver interesting and relevant talks on the latest research in an accessible format to the public – all in the pub! From the first festival in 2013, covering London, Oxford and Cambridge, to the ever expanding network in 2016, covering 100 cities worldwide, Pint of Science reaches more and more people every year. The festival is such a success that the Prime Minister awarded co-founders Praveen Paul and Michael Motskin the Points of Light award this year.
Since the festival started, staff at the IoO have volunteered their time to facilitate in the running of UCL Pint of Science events.
Research Staff who organised the festival this year include Enrico Cristante (London chapter manager), Victoria Tovell (UCL coordinator), Carla Sanchez Martinez, Kate Fynes, Rita Pinho and Sylvia Dragoni (all UCL event managers) and research staff speaking at the festival included Professor Pete Coffey and Mathew Tata. This year, UCL took part in 18 events across London, with the potential of reaching nearly 1000 members of the public, a small step in the giant leap we need to take towards engaging more with the public.
