About the Speaker
Xiaorong Liu
Associate Professor of Biology and Psychology at University of Virginia
My lab is interested in establishing a new diagnostic imaging system for retinal damage in varied eye diseases. In collaboration with Hao Zhang’s laboratory at Northwestern BME, we developed a novel imaging modality, visible-light optical coherence tomography fibergraphy (vis-OCTF). We have applied vis-OCTF to visualize, quantify, and track the changes in retinal ganglion cell (RGC) axon bundles in the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) in mice and tree shrews. We also started imaging patients’ eyes with retinal damage in collaboration with Drs Netland and Krause at the University of Virginia. Moreover, we are interested in developing novel drug packing and delivery methods for neuroprotection to preserve vision in glaucoma.
