Logistics management

The purpose of this initiative is to provide a comprehensive logistics service for the distribution of products to 256 Grays Inn Road.

Overview

The purpose of this initiative is to provide a framework to support effective management of procurement and stock management processes, and indirect/direct delivery processes that enable economies of scale and operational efficiencies.

Goals

  • Coordination of the supply chain processes via a goods consolidation centre that provides detailed reporting.
  • Delivery of an inventory management system that automates procurement and stock management processes, and provides detailed reporting.
  • Standardise flow processes for all products delivered directly or indirectly to site.
  • Introduction of delivery formats that optimise vehicle use by pairing forward logistics (site delivery) with reverse logistics (site collection).
  • Promotion of UCL green policies by reducing waste and carbon footprint by reducing logistics-related vehicle traffic to and from site.

Benefits

  • Efficiently coordinated indirect/direct delivery and collection service for research goods/waste that achieves cost savings.
  • Effective management of procurement processes and stock levels increasing transparency resulting in economies of scale.
  • Automated cross-charging of research goods procured via vending machines and supplier scanning technology resulting in data generated to support funder auditing requirements.
