IOE academic examines the benefits and disadvantages of a National Education Service
8 April 2019
UCL Institute of Education (IOE) academic Professor Martin Mills has been exploring what the implementation of a National Education Service (NES) could mean for teachers and pupils.
The NES has been advocated as a means by which to revolutionise the current education system. The programme would offer lifelong learning opportunities that are free at the point of use.
Professor Mills led a seminar exploring whether or not a NES is necessary, if so what it might look like and what it would mean for teachers and students. The seminar also examined how an NES might be achieved and what some of the pitfalls might be.
Following Professor Mills’ talk, educationalists then took part in small group discussions about the pros and cons of an NES.
The event was held at the RSA House in London on 19 March 2019.
