Social transmission of support for authoritarian rule: Evidence from field and survey experiments
Join this event to hear Andreas Kotsadam assess the role of social influence on the preference for authoritarian, undemocratic leaders in pre-registered field and survey experiments in the Norwegian Armed Forces.
Why do some individuals prefer authoritarian governance over democratic governance?
Andreas proposes that the social environment shapes authoritarian orientations. This seminar will assess the role of social influence on the preference for authoritarian, undemocratic leaders in pre-registered field and survey experiments in the Norwegian Armed Forces.
Andreas will suggest that support for authoritarian rule can have a social basis, and that desire for authoritarian rule could spread through social contagion in established democracies.
This event will be particularly useful for those interested in behavioural economics, experimental economics, peer influence and political attitudes.
Please note this is a hybrid event and can be joined either in-person or online.
