Collaboration helps us to push the boundaries of our research. Our strategic links with hospitals, BRCs, industry, charity and academic partners are vital to the success of our student cohort.
We have engaged a large number of partners to amplify the EPSRC funding and to offer trainees with a range of partner-enhanced training. Our partners include healthcare providers, industry, research institutions and charities (see below diagram for some of our valued i4health CDT partners).
At UCL we have unparalleled access to clinical expertise, with direct links to nine hospitals and three biomedical research centres (BRCs). UCL is the only UK university to host three major NIHR BRCs. One is associated with UCLH while the other two are associated with the specialistMoorfields Eye Hospital and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. All undertake internationallycompetitive experimental medicine (diagnostics and first-into-man therapeutics) and a major component of each comprises biomedical imaging in humans.
This partnership provides our students with unique access to the extensive translational portfolio to target their engineering innovations. By partnering with these NIHR BRCs and involving clinical supervisors closely in research training, we will ensure a direct connection between the CDT and clinically relevant projects and environments, thus the training of a generation of engineers literate in clinical translation.
We have a strong track record of working with industry. Our industry partnerships commit studentships but also allow for enhanced training offers that include joint supervision, giving industrial seminars, and short-term placement opportunities.
