IBIL's own IP research is at the core of all our activities, underpinning not only our approach to teaching, but also our engagement with the wider IP community. Building on its fifteen-year history, the Institute continues to produce research which stimulates debate and informs policy on a wide range of intellectual property issues.

IP WIP Lunches

IBIL established its lunchtime IP Work in Progress discussion group in 2017 having identified that it is often difficult for those engaged in IP-related research to obtain feedback at the earlier stages of a research project.

The group typically meets twice a year over lunch. These lunchtime meets aim to provide an informal forum for IP academics to discuss research proposals at a stage when the feedback received from the group can be incorporated into the design of the research.

While attendance at lunch is by invitation only, please contact us here if you are an IP academic based within a UK institution and are interested in either attending our next lunch, or presenting your research.

Visiting Researchers

IBIL welcomes applications from visiting IP academics as part of UCL's Affiliate Academic Scheme. You can find further details of the scheme here.

In the first instance, if you feel that you meet the eligibility requirements, please contact one of the Institute's co-directors with (a) your research proposal, (b) CV, and (c) details of when you would like to visit.

As a visiting academic, you may be asked to contribute to the Institute during your stay. This might take the form of a presentation to the Faculty or the IP WIP group, discussion with PhD students or participation in a student seminar.

Students enrolled on a PhD are not eligible to join the Affiliate Academic scheme, but can apply to be a Visiting Research Student.
