UCL apprentice wins Multicultural Apprenticeship Award

10 October 2023

UCL apprentice Aymen Belkacemi has been named winner of the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards 2023 in the ‘Charity, Voluntary and Public Services’ category. Sponsored by NCFE, this category hopes to shine a light on those who are actively working to support their communities.

Aymen Belkacemi receiving a Multicultural Apprenticeship Award

Held annually in Birmingham, the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards are designed to celebrate talent and diversity through their recognition of multicultural British apprentices, as well as their employers and learning providers. The 30 awards, across 16 different categories, highlight the achievements of apprentices and the contribution of employers in overcoming adversity. A panel of 20 expert judges reviewed over 450 submissions to select the winners this year.

Aymen successfully completed a Level 3 Data Technician Apprenticeship in the UCL Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (CEGE) and has now secured a position as a Teaching & Learning Administrator (Process & Teaching Support) at the UCL School of Management.

On being given the award Aymen said:

"This award is dedicated to all those who have faced adversity. I hope that this inspires others to seek change to make apprenticeships accessible to all"

On hearing the announcement, Paula Sandamas, Apprenticeship Manager (Academic and Professional Services) said:

"I want to congratulate Aymen on this amazing achievement. This award recognises Aymen’s hard work and commitment to his apprenticeship and UCL, and his enthusiasm and encouragement of others to undertake an apprenticeship to develop skills for a successful career. Aymen has been a fantastic ambassador for UCL Apprenticeships and I know he has the skills and determination for a successful future.”

Apprenticeships at UCL align with the 'Living our values' strand of our Strategic Plan by providing an opportunity to recruit a more diverse workforce and professional development to support colleagues to thrive.
