The Senior Leaders Induction programme is a package for staff moving into senior leadership positions at UCL (grades 10 and above).
About the Programme
This induction programme has been created for new senior leaders and has been designed to support their needs whilst transitioning roles. Its design is based on research and ongoing conversations with past and present senior leaders. The programme also provides the first steps towards developing a leadership community that can connect UCL leaders to each other in support of their wellbeing and effectiveness.
The programme will be a mix of self-paced learning and learning with peers via e-learning and in-person live sessions and will incorporate a blended approach that actively seeks to develop and foster a leadership learning community space. With multiple points scheduled for evaluation and monitoring of learning and impact, the design of the programme will continually improve.
As a senior leader, this programme will help you to understand the drivers of change at a university, faculty, and departmental level. This can help give clarity and context to your newly appointed role and the way that UCL works. It will also provide you with an easy-to-understand description of the “UCL way” and how to navigate the organisational systems effectively.
Areas covered include:
- People management
- Role transition
- Strategic leadership
- Handling conflict / difficult conversations
- Communication and engagement
- Delegating effectively
- Influencing effectively
