Charter marks and awards

UCL has been awarded a number of charter marks, in recognition of our achievements in HR and in equality, diversity and inclusion.

Athena SWAN  In 2015 UCL received a Silver Athena SWAN award from the Equality Challenge Unit (ECU), in recognition of the university’s commitment to tackling gender inequality in higher education. Several departments have also received Gold Athena SWAN awards. More about Athena SWAN
HR Excellence in Research  UCL gained the European Commission's HR Excellence in Research Award in 2013, which has been successfully reviewed in 2015 and 2017. The award recognises the systems and practices we have in place to support researchers' career and professional development in line with the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers.  More about HR Excellence in Research
Race Equality Charter Silver Award  UCL is one of a small number of universities in the UK to achieve Race Equality Charter Silver status, recognising sustained progress in addressing racialised inequalities across higher education. The award builds on UCL’s earlier participation in Advance HE’s pioneering national pilot scheme and reflects the university’s continued commitment to improving the experiences and outcomes of Black, Asian and minority ethnic staff and students.
