Dogukan's research focuses on urbanism under the influence of politics and religious tensions in the seventeenth century Ottoman Constantinople. The century was a stage for economic crises, multi-faith clashes especially between the mystic sufis and ultra-conservative groups. Dogukan's thesis examines the royal patronage over the religious clashes and the urban structure of the Ottoman capital. By analysing architecture, he aims to understand the role of the ruling elite over contemporary religious tensions.
