Fourth annual UCL-Tohoku University Strategic Partner Funds recipients

Six projects led by UCL and Tohoku University academics each received £10,000 to support a wide range of collaborations

Six UCL academics are launching collaborative projects with academics from Tohoku University following the fourth joint funding call from the two universities.

UCL and Tohoku University contributed matched funds to support the projects, with each project receiving £10,000.

Like last year’s recipients, many of the 2021/22 recipients focused their projects on mitigating the ongoing impact of COVID-19.

Marc IsaacsSocial & Historical SciencesA multi-disciplinary collaboration between film ethnographers and anthropologists to access long-term memory and trauma related to disaster in Kamaishi.
Dr Ai NaganoMedical SciencesComprehensive analysis of inflammatory mechanism of severe COVID-19 cases compared to other respiratory diseases, interstitial pneumonia, asthma, and lung cancer.
Dr Mojtaba Abdi JalebiMAPSStudy of the optoelectronic behaviour of novel semiconductor materials for environmentally friendly and sustainable solar cells.
