Event: Global Opportunities for UCL's Early Careers Staff
30 April 2018
New event will offer UCL early career researchers advice about global funding opportunities and writing for international journal publications
This term will see the first ‘Global Opportunities for Early Careers Staff’ event take place at UCL’s Institute of Education (IOE) on 4 June, from 12:30-19:00.
The half-day event will provide early careers staff from across UCL with the chance to find out about UCL's wide-ranging funding opportunities, along with practical advice such as how to write for international journal publications.
All early careers staff across UCL are welcome.
Funding and training opportunities
Kicking off with a buffet lunch, the event will see Professor David Bogle, Pro-Vice-Provost for Research, and Richard Laughlin, Head of Organisational Development, share details of the new opportunities and training programmes UCL is putting together for early careers staff.
Co-organiser Professor Gudrun Moore, Pro-Vice-Provost International, will then share information about UCL’s Global Engagement Funds, the funding awarded annually by UCL’s Global Engagement Office in support of overseas collaboration.
Gudrun will introduce four successful post-doctoral applicants, who will share how they went about securing the funds, along with details of the European research they supported.
International publication advice
Following refreshments, Professor David Price, Vice-Provost (Research), will share take-home advice for securing publication in international papers. The session will also include tips from high-ranking journal editors on what exactly they’re looking for from international publication submissions.
The event will close with a lively networking session, drinks and a canapé reception, providing attendees with plenty of opportunity to get talking to their peers and predecessors from across UCL.
Places at the event are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
