About the event:
The showcase event will demonstrate the breadth and depth of technical contribution that our technical staff make to UCL research, teaching, and innovation. It will also show that technical careers are rewarding and recognised by UCL.
The event will be opened by UCL Vice president Operations, Aimie Chapple at 10am.
The event includes exhibition stands in the Cloisters, JBR room and Haldane room as well as a series of talks taking place throughout the day in the Gustave Tuck Lecture theatre.
The exhibition will be set up from 11am - 3pm and we encourage all staff to come and have a look at the brilliant demonstrations our Technical community are putting on.
Audience:
The audience will be Technical Professionals, Academics and Professional Services at UCL. We also welcome students that are interested in learning more about the work that our technical professionals do at UCL. Some selected external stakeholders have also been invited.
Provisional event schedule:
- 10.00am - 10.20am: Opening the Technical Staff Showcase by Aimie Chapple, UCL Vice President Operations in the Gustave Tuck Lecture Theatre
- 10.20am - 11:00am: Key note speaker, Dr Kelly Vere MBE in the Gustave Tuck Lecture Theatre
- 11:00am - 3:00pm: Exhibition – Our technical staff showcasing the fantastic work they do at UCL with some live demos in The Cloisters, Haldane room and Jeremy Bentham room
- 2.20pm - 2.40pm: Volume Electron Microscopy - revealing complex biological ultrastructure in 3 dimensions with Jemima Burden, LMCB EM facility in the Gustave Tuck Lecture Theatre
- 2.40pm - 3.00pm: UCL Genomics Core Facility overview – how we can support your genomic research with Mark Kristiansen, UCL Genomics Core Facility in the Gustave Tuck Lecture Theatre
- 3.00pm - 3.20pm: Electrophysiology to aid the diagnosis of patients with neurological disorders NPP with Ian Coombs, Cull-Candy/Farrant lab in the Gustave Tuck Lecture Theatre
- 3.20pm - 3.40pm: Apprenticeships at UCL, the way forward - A year on with Uzma Sadiq, Organisational Development in the Gustave Tuck Lecture Theatre
- 3.40pm - 4.00pm: Insight Cancer Research with Yanping Guo, Cancer Institute Cancer Institute in the Gustave Tuck Lecture Theatre
- 4.00pm - 4.20pm: Historic building recording at Archaeology South-East: the case of the Dragon's Cave with Michael Shapland, Archaeology South-East in the Gustave Tuck Lecture Theatre
- 4:30pm - 5:00pm: Closing the Technical Staff Showcase Event with a recorded message from our senior Sponsors Prof Ibrahim Abubakar, Dean of Population Health and Prof Nigel Titchener-Hooker, Dean of Engineering. Then announcement of the awards (Photo competition and Technician of the Year) in the Gustave Tuck Lecture Theatre
- 5:00pm - 7:00pm: Drinks Reception and networking in the Jeremy Bentham Room
