How does a lipid researcher interested in microscopic signalling mechanisms develop a keen side interest in teaching in to a £1M CPD operation? The development of the SysMIC programme (http://sysmic.ac.uk) has a lot to say about the how an open mind and an open hand can create and grow surprising projects in UCL's exceptionally fertile academic soil.
About the Speaker
Professor Geraint Thomas
Professor of Biochemistry from the Research Department of Cell & Developmental Biology (UCL Division of Biosciences)

He is committed to development of interdisciplinary scientists, leading both the UCL Natural Sciences programme across four faculties and as Deputy Director of the UKRI-BBSRC London Interdisciplinary Doctoral Training Partnership (www.lido-dtp.ac.uk) - the council’s largest investment in PhD bioscience talent development. Geraint is an interdisciplinary scientist trained in biochemistry and mathematics. His research is funded from industry and academic sources and he has recently started consulting. He leads the SysMIC programme providing e-training in quantitative, coding and data sciences for bioscience researchers (http://sysmic.ac.uk) and will lead the new “Learn to Discover” initiative (L2D).
