About the lecture: For infants living in resource-poor settings, exposure to malnutrition, poor sanitation and infectious diseases can have a very damaging effect not just on their health but on their brain development. Current estimates suggest that 1 in 3 of these infants are failing to reach their developmental potential; these infants are surviving but they are not necessarily thriving. The Brain Imaging for Global Health (BRIGHT) project is using a novel optical brain imaging technique to chart brain development of African infants from birth to their second birthday to inform interventions to protect the brains of some of the world’s poorest children.
