NEW TEXTBOOK: Captioning and Subtitling for d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing Audiences

19 January 2021

book

The start of Term 3 coincides with the publication of a new textbook: Captioning and Subtitling for d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing Audiences (published by UCL Press). The author, Soledad Zárate, who is also lecturer at CenTraS (SELCS), explains how this book encompasses her research and professional experience as a subtitler and captioner. The book is a comprehensive guide to the theory and practice of captioning and subtitling, a discipline which has evolved quickly in recent years.

A healthy level of interest has been seen since its publication and Soledad has been overwhelmed by the response received on the social media from students, professionals and audiences.

If you have ever wonder how to make a film or a theatre play accessible to d/Deaf and hard of hearing audiences, here’s your chance to find out how. The book can be downloaded for free: https://www.uclpress.co.uk/products/128370

If you’d like to discuss the topic with like-minded people, join the Facebook group Captioning and subtitling for d/Deaf and hard of hearing people, administered by Soledad.
